Our Humble Beginning

Christmas is a magical time of year. It's a time for family and friends, gathering and giving. For many, it's the favorite time of year. And so it is for me. In this day of commercialization, gift giving can be a stressful task. Trying to avoid useless trinkets that suggest little thought went into the selection process of choosing gifts that are soon forgotten or simply stashed away. You want to find just the right gift, something thoughtful that reminds them that you love them each time they see or use it. After all, giving is an expression of love.

Finding just the right gift seems to get more difficult with each passing year, and Christmas 2023 was a testament to that. Personally, I believe there is no better expression of love than a gift you create yourself. Because when you make it yourself, you make it with love. So, how do I decide what to make for my three daughters and my daughter-in-law? The answer, I pay attention to their homes, and their habits. Jumping ahead, I noticed that each of them use home fragrance products, more specifically, scented wax melts.

Trying to avoid useless trinkets that suggest little thought went into the selection process of choosing gifts that are soon forgotten or simply stashed away. You want to find just the right gift, something thoughtful that reminds them that you love them each time they see or use it. After all, giving is an expression of love.

Finding just the right gift seems to get more difficult with each passing year, and Christmas 2023 was a testament to that. Personally, I believe there is no better expression of love than a gift you create yourself. Because when you make it yourself, you make it with love. So, how do I decide what to make for my three daughters and my daughter-in-law? The answer, I pay attention to their homes, and their habits. Jumping ahead, I noticed that each of them use home fragrance products, more specifically, scented wax melts.

So why not just buy them at the store instead of going to the trouble of making them? Because off the shelf wax melts are made with synthetic fragrances, many of which don't even come close to smelling like the named scent. In fact, I've personally found some that should be named dirty diaper. Sorry for the graphic description, but it's true. Not only that, they don't last long, with the fragrance burning out in just a few hours. So, I did a great deal of research on how to make wax melts. As it turns out, wax melts can be much more than a pleasant aroma. By using the right ingredients they actually have therapeutic properties that lift your mood, relieve stress, or create a cozy ambiance.

If you're like me, nothing is too good for family. So I approached this project with the utmost quality in mind. The ingredients I purchased to make these wax melts are top shelf, being all natural, plant based and sustainably sourced. Initially, I made six different scents spanning the range of uplifting fruits, relaxing floral, and cozy spice fragrances. I chose an all natural soy wax that holds fifty percent more essential oil than most other waxes on the market, resulting in longer lasting fragrance with a stronger scent throw. The strength of the aroma can be controlled by varying the heat applied in the scent warmer. The higher the heat, the stronger the throw.

My daughter-in-law actually has three warmers and a diffuser in her living room, and they still don't fill the entire room. I saw this as a challenge, and took on another project to solve this problem.

I gave this a tremendous amount of thought, reviewing many different products on the market. Not one could accomplish the task of filling a large open space with fragrance. Multiple configurations ran through my mind over of a period of about three weeks, until I finally came up with a design that should accomplish the desired result. But will it work?

There's only one way to find out – build a prototype. But before diving into that, I did a patent search and found that there is nothing even similar to my design. I bought materials available on the market, ordered a few more on line, and got to work building my prototype. After about four weeks it was time for the moment of truth. I set up my device on a side table, centered on a wall measuring 25' across, facing out into a space measuring 25' deep. Low and behold it works just as designed. I checked every corner of the space and verified that every corner was filled with the sweet aroma of Jasmine. The aroma even traveled another 13” down a hallway at the end of the space.
